Abstract

Is the fertility rate a relevant variable to explain the evolution and dynamic of inequality in Brazil? This research project is addressed to seek to answer such a question. There is a growing literature establishing relationships between fertility and development. However, there is considerable difficulty in estimate econometrically this effect. Thus, among the possible ways of estimating this relationship, we intend to explore initially the potential exogenous variation in fertility caused by temperature variation and the entry of Rede Globo into the Brazilian spatial context. Other forms of estimation will also be considered in the development of the research.
