Abstract

All aspects of physiology, including cycles of activity and resting, cardiovascular activity, endocrine system, body temperature, renal activity, gastrointestinal tract motility and nutrient metabolism are influenced by the circadian system, and may occur with lower or higher frequencies and/or intensities according to the period of the day within 24 hours. Consequently, understanding the dynamics of nutrient uptake and metabolism over 24 hours can be an important tool for adjusting nutritional programs to the nutritional requirements of production animals. Therefore, the objective of this study is to better understand this dynamics throughout the 24 hours of the day and to determine the ideal level of amino acids to be supplied in the diet at different times of the day. To do this, two experiments will be performed: a) a metabolism test to characterize the dynamics of nutrient uptake and metabolism through the analysis of serum levels of hormones, energy metabolites, protein and nitrogen balance; and b) a dose-response assay to evaluate performance, composition and carcass traits of growing pigs receiving diets with different concentrations of amino acids in a sequential feed plane.
