Abstract Paper is been used successfully in analytical determinations in the past decades; it is a cheap, available, biocompatible and renewable raw material. Paper has several different applications, such as paper chromatography, paper-strip, lateral flow assay, electrophoresis, flow chemistry and mass spectrometry. Paper-spray mass spectrometry (PS-MS) is an ambient ionization method that combines the advantages of the paper platform with the reliability of MS analysis, reducing the consumption of time, reagent, and organic solvent. The use of illicit substances to improve enhance athletic performance in sport is forbidden and considered doping. The anti-doping test is applied in the Olympic Games since 1968 edition and several compounds, such as anabolic steroids, diuretics, stimulants, and narcotics are determined in biofluids by this test. Therefore, it seems necessary to develop a rapid, robust, reliable, efficient and sample preparation free PS-MS method for illicit substance in biofluids. (AU) | |
