Abstract

The industry of cosmetics constitutes one of the most important segments of the world-wide economy. In the cosmetics sector, the innovations are incessant and they are very connected to the development of new products. Considering the current scenery in which people look for the care and conservation of the skin, it is possible to see clearly that the segment concerning the skin's preventive treatment or preparations with potential antiaging present strong tendency of growth. The concept of aging is straightly connected to the increase of preoccupation of the population regarding the care with the skin and, in this context, exogenous compounds as antioxidant and phenolic compounds reinforce the natural protection for the limitation of the oxidatives reactions. The phenolic acids are some of the substances that constitute the group of the phenolic compounds and present antioxidant properties, which work like roots kidnappers and sometimes like chelator of metal acting such in the initiation stage, as in the propagation of the oxidative process. The vanillic acid is one of the representatives of this group and characterize for his antioxidant and antimicrobial potential. Even so, his use as assets in cosmetic preparations is low, since the studies that show the efficiency of this acid and his use in preparations for topical application are few. With that and due to this necessity of proof of the effectiveness of cosmetic assets, this project is based on the use of the vanillic acid in cosmetic preparations, with studies directed to the antioxidant confirmation of the functions for the method of inhibition of the root 2,2'azinobis - (3-ethylbensothiazoline)-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS* +) and the root 1,1difenil-2-picrilhidrazila (DPPH) and antimicrobial with use of cultures of vine plants E. coli ATCC 10536, S. aureus ATCC 6538, S. epidermidies ATCC 12228, P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853, P. acnes, in way to guarantee his multifunctional efficiency for his incorporation in preparations for topical use.
