Abstract

Haemophilus influenzae type b is a gram-negative bacterium that has as its only host the human being. It causes a number of diseases from which we can highlight meningitis, a disease still considered a global health problem. Although there is a very effective conjugate vaccine against Hib, the presence of possible vaccine revertants may render the vaccine (based on the polysaccharide capsule of the bacterium conjugated to the tetanus toxoid) ineffective and economically infeasible. This project aims at the production of a new vaccine from OMV of Haemophilus influenzae type b with possibility of even greater efficacy and whose cost would be lower when compared to the conjugate vaccine. For this, OMVs will be produced through fermentation, these will be purified and the capsule will be extracted and later tests will be done to characterize the vesicles and to verify the efficacy of the vaccine comparing the different samples produced.
