Abstract

Indicators of spatial association measure the degree of spatial dependence of non-independent random variables (such as the variables related to transport and territorial planning). Those commonly used in the literature (such as Moran and LISA) can be applied to quantitative data and are part of Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis - ESDA. One technique used in Spatial Data Analysis for Surfaces is geostatistics, which is based on the variogram, that describes quantitatively and qualitatively the spatial structure of a variable. In this research study, variogram concepts are used to improve and automate the development and obtaining of a global indicator of spatial association (Global Spatial Indicator based on VARiogram - G-SIVAR) and a local indicator of spatial association (Local Spatial Indicator based on VARiogram - L-SIVAR), developed previously by Naizer (2018) and Naizer and Pitombo (2017). The proposed indicators are based on the spatial dissimilarity and are the standardized values of the global and individual theoretical variograms, being associated with a hypothesis test based on pseudo-significance. In order to automate the process of obtaining such indicators, which are more complete and versatile when compared to the usual ones, this research project, to be carried out in the period of 12 months in the Department of Transport Engineering of the School of Engineering of São Carlos (University of São Paulo), has as main proposal the development of a library in software R ("sivar") to enable the calculation of all steps of the methodological procedure that covers the achievement of the indicators. As the main product of this project, it is expected popularization of the use of such indicators, bringing contributions not only to researchers in the area of transportation planning, but also all other fields dealing with spatially correlated data (epidemiology, geology, environment, etc.).
