Abstract

Although the international scientific literature presents a large and growing number of studies using Heart Rate Variability (HRV) as an indirect method of evaluating the functioning of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), recent studies with a lot of cases that can be used as a reference for both linear and non-linear indexes and in health and disease conditions, in the different age groups, are non-existent. Objectives: To establish specific reference values for linear and non-linear indexes of HRV, from the newborn to the advanced elderly, in health status and in various disease conditions, from the formation of a database with a "Big Data" concept in which it is possible to count on the information of more than one million data obtained through international scientific publications and of time series obtained during dissertations and theses elaborations from our research group (NUTECC-FAMERP). Methods: Two sets of data will be used: 1) values of mean and standard deviation, and/or median, minimum-maximum and interquartile range of HRV indexes extracted from the available international literature; 2) values obtained from the analysis of the internal database, through theses and dissertations of members and/or collaborators of our research group. Linear (in the time and frequency domains) and nonlinear indexes (domain of chaos/complexity) will be considered. Expectation: We expect to build the largest ever existing information bank about HRV and its reference values, based on "Big Data" concepts that should be a reference for researchers in this area.
