Abstract Based on the way the modern perplexity (Verlegenheit) about the beginning (Anfang) of philosophy is treated in the text With what must the science begin?, by Hegel, this research has the objective of studying interpretative differences which are present in the recent Hegelian studies of what is the circularity of Hegel's logical science about; and also how each of these interpretations culminates in a distinct comprehension of the Hegelian resolution of such perplexity about the beginning, namely: the thesis of the coexistence of mediation and immediacy in every logical proposition and, therefore, also in the logical beginning. Once the differences between such interpretations have been analyzed and systematized, we will try to confront them with texts of the philosopher to examine which one is more faithful to him.
