Abstract As a consequence of a study of the nature of the initial immediacy of the Science of Logic, this research aims to gain access to the problem of immanence in Hegel's philosophy. Starting from the philosopher's reference to the circularity of science as a justification for the mediation of the initial immediacy by the concept, our aim is to ask whether this mediation is the very constitution of the initial immediacy, or whether it is preserved in science even with such mediation. Understanding the way in which the notion of immediacy is used at the end of the Doctrine of the Concept will help us to take a position in the debate about the nature of the immediacy of the Logic's beginning, that is, it will be a decisive step towards formulating a position in the debate about whether the initial immediacy is constitutively posited by the end of logical science, or if it remains unmediated despite the incorporating force of mediating thought. This debate is a concrete expression of the problem of immanence in Hegelian system, that is, the problem that asks if there is room in this system for what is external to it, for an immediacy that remains unmediated. In other words, by dealing with the initial immediacy of the Logic, we intend to enter into the debate as to whether and to what extent the Hegelian system is open or closed to what appears to it as external. | |
