Abstract

Potential biomarkers of responses to alterations stemming from the development of cancer cells can be effectively evaluated by adopting lipidomic strategies using high resolution mass spectrometry and gas chromatography techniques for a more accurate identification and broad-scale quantification of alterations in cell and plasma lipids. This proposal to conduct a systematic qualitative and quantitative evaluation of total lipids and their fractions in blood samples (plasma and erythrocytes) drawn from volunteer colorectal cancer patients and healthy individuals, making use of solid phase micro extraction and gas chromatography is part of a larger, regular research project (FAPESP 2016/11905-2). The proposed study will contribute to lipidomic studies in cancer, to the endeavors to identify lipid biomarkers and to furthering understanding of the molecular bases of the pathology.
