Abstract

This research project takes as an object of study the experience of the "Cooperativa Pró Moradia" (COPROMO) in the municipality of Osasco (SP), in the 1990s, through self-managed joint effort as an alternative housing cooperative provision. The research will focus on the institutional model, the social structuring and the dynamics of operation adopted in this experiment, as well as examining its effective production and urban characteristics. Some of the important aspects to highlight are the trajectory and role of social movements for housing. It is therefore a matter of critically analyzing the practice of the joint effort and recovering the conceptual debate that involved this practice, seeking to forge arguments about its eventual relevance, in the context of the current public policies marked by the financialization of housing. To do so, it is essential to recover the terms of the debate that involved, on the one hand, the formulators of the New Architecture and enthusiasts of the joint effort and, on the other hand, the critics who saw in him a "rate of exploitation of the work force", in an "overwork". In summary, to revisit the debate about the self-management joint effort, its legacy and eventual contemporaneity in the scope of public policies of urban planning and social housing. (AU)
