Abstract

The present project proposes a dialogical analysis of the discourse in the literary work Harry Potter, focusing on the relations of race, gender and class. It seeks to answer the following research question: does the Harry Potter discourse embody the values and social struggles in the cleavages of race, gender, and class present in contemporary society? The hypothesis is that, within the framework in Harry Potter, such relations constitute hierarchies in the social structure of the wizarding world, reflecting and refracting the social issues of reality that give it meaning. The project is anchored in the theoretical-methodological assumptions of the studies carried inside of Bakhtin's Circle, which conceives the literary work as a concrete statement in its active-responsive character. The comparison is the methodological way to understand the constitution of the subjects and/or social groups within the narrative, as well as for the understanding of the constitution of the ideological threads and the interdiscursive construction of the literary work.
