Abstract

The development of new energy storage devices to supply the growing for greater safety and better performance has been shown an important point to continue in the advancement of new portable electronics and electric cars. Electrochemical Capacitors enter this class of energy storage devices, because they have a high energy storage and rapid release of this energy, serving as back-up system or main device in special cases. To improve its performance, the search for electrodes with greater surface area and better performance, besides electrolytes with wide electrochemical window has been investigated. Thus, graphene appears as an excellent candidate for electrode material since it is a 2D carbon material that has conductivity greater than Copper, very low density, high mechanical resistance and extremely high surface area, increasing the capacitance of the Electrochemical Capacitor. As an electrolyte, ionic liquids are an interesting alternative to conventional solvents, since they have high chemical and thermal stability, negligible vapor pressure (increased safety of the device), intrinsic ionic conductivity and, mainly, a large electrochemical window, of the Electrochemical Capacitor. In this way, we will establish a route of preparation of graphene and electrode production with good physical and electrochemical qualities and study its performance in ionic liquids that has been developed in the group with large electrochemical window and good transport property to obtain Electrochemical Capacitors of high performance.
