Abstract

In the last three decades, microorganisms have been studied as a promising source of bioactive molecules with wide possibilities of use in the pharmaceutical industry in the treatment of various diseases. In this work, different phytopathogenic fungi will be studied in relation to the production of bioactive secondary metabolites, being 4 strains of the genus Penicillium. All strains will be cultured on a small scale and their extracts tested for their anticancer activities against a panel of ten human cancer cell lines: UACC-62 (Skin), MCF-7 (Human breast), NCI-ADR/RES (Ovary), 786- , NCI-H460 (Lung), PC-3 (Prostate), OVCAR-3 (Ovary), HT-29 (Colon-human), K562 (Bone marrow), U251 (CNS) and HaCat. Potential active extracts will be submitted to fractions and characterization of natural products with anti-tumor activity.
