Abstract

Lipolysis is a complex biological mechanism responsible for promoting the degradation of fat molecules to obtain an energy substrate. The aging process is accompanied by increased accumulation of adipose tissue by which occurs at least in part, due to the reduction lipolysis activation capacity. On the other hand, it is known that physical exercise is recognized as a potent stimulator of the lipolysis process. Recently, ABHD5 (alpha beta hydrolase domain-contain protein 5) has been described as a key molecule in the control of lipolysis, whereas the interaction between ABHD5/ATGL is determinant for the metabolization of triglycerides to obtain energy. However, the influence of aging and physical exercise on the expression / activity of ABHD5 remain unclear. Thus, this project intends to evaluate the effect of aging process on the protein content of ABHD5 in the adipose tissue of mice, as well as to investigate the role of physical exercise on ABHD5 and the activation of lipolysis during aging process. The realization of this project may help elucidate the role of ABHD5 on fat accumulation during aging process, as well as determine the potential ability of physical exercise in modulating the activity of ABHD5 and lipolysis in aging.
