Abstract Parts produced by additive manufacturing (AM) are built layer by layer usually using powder as raw material. The size distribution, morphology, chemical composition and powder fabrication process may significantly impact the parts produced by AM. For the use of 316L stainless steel in AM processes of Direct Energy Deposition and Powder Bed Fusion during "The study, development and application of a hybrid process: Additive Manufacturing (AM) plus High Speed Machining/Grinding (HSM/G)" FAPESP thematic project, it is fundamental to investigate the powder characteristics and correlates them with the samples obtained by AM. The goal of the present project at Colorado School of Mines (CSM) is to carry out part of the 316L powder characterization through the evaluation of particle size and morphology using X-Ray Computed Tomography and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). With the addition of these results to the project, a more complete characterization of the powder will be achieved. (AU) | |
