Abstract

Dementia is a progressive degenerative disease with high mortality, which causes prejudice in cognitive functions and usually affects the population of the elderly. Its etiology is multifactorial and still needs to be better elucidated. There are several studies about causes of mortality in patients with dementia, however, there are few about mortality among the different types of dementia. The objective of this study is to compare the causes of mortality based on the death certificate of individuals with (post-mortem) anatomopathological diagnose of Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, and dementia with Lewy bodies. This study will be done with individuals 50 years old or more and that were submitted to the autopsy.
