Abstract

The addition of calcium orthophosphate particles to resin-based restorative materials has been studies with the purpose of promoting remineralization of tooth structures. A high surface area and/or reduced size are important features to optimize ion release by these particles. The purpose of this study is analyze the effect of temperature and drip rate on the characteristics of dicalcium phosphate dihydrate particles (DCPD) obtained by co-precipitation synthesis in water. Particle synthesis will be conducted at two temperatures (24°C and 60°C) and three drip rates (1 ml/min, 10 ml/min e 30 ml/min), each condition will be conducted in triplicate in order to check synthesis reproducibility. At the end of the synthesis, the obtained gel will be freeze-dried and the particles will be characterized according to the following techniques: x-ray diffraction, Fourrier-transformed infrared spectroscopy, density, surface area, laser diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy.
