Abstract

Childhood Cancer triggers economic and social repercussions. Currently, studies have investigated children' Cancer from mothers and children's point of view, very few have looked into fathers' experience. Researches with dads have focused on the diagnosis period. There is a knowledge gap about the experience of fathers at the time of his child's Cancer relapse. This study aims to interpret the meanings fathers assign to their children' Cancer relapse. For the development of this research, we selected the medical and the anthropology of masculinities and the narrative method as theoretical and methodological framework, respectively. Fathers of children with Cancer relapse will be recruited in Québec, Canada and Brazil. Data collection will be carried out preferentially at the participants' home, through in-depth interviews. Data collection and analysis of data will be carried out concurrently. Inductive thematic analysis will be used and it will allow interpretation of the meanings assigned by fathers to their child's Cancer relapse and explain how culture influences the health-disease process and the construction of the paternal care in Cancer relapse. These results will allow enhancement of skilled care to families. (AU)
