Abstract

Within the hip-hop culture that emerged in the United States, there are three aspects: Rap, Graffite, and Break. In music, there is rap, which has spread widely throughout Brazil, especially in São Paulo, where it takes on many forms and gains strength through its many voices in the peripheries. Brazilian Rap has many singularities, compared to the American form, and in the city of Campinas this is no different. This project aims to understand how this music develops and assumes forms in this specific environment, taking account of thematic issues and specifically musical aspects. In addition, it will observe how the existing spaces for this type of musical manifestation are configured and affect all involved in its processes of production, performance and assimilation. The research will be undertaken through the collection of data by testimonials, interviews, and follow-ups of the presentations of the groups in the local scene of the Campinas and metropolitan region. The data will be analyzed and used to achieve a better understanding of how this site affects and modifies a form of music that was first seen as "foreign", focusing specifically on the contexto of Campinas.
