Abstract

The growing interest in alternative vegetable sources to obtain raw materials used for the production of biofuels, food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, among others, has driven research and the study of a greater diversity of vegetables and residues for this purpose. With regard to biofuels, especially biodiesel production, alternative sources of vegetable oil may contribute to minimizing the food vs. fuel dilemma, so much discussed today. Therefore, this proposal aims to study the extraction and characterization of the oil from Hemp Seeds by solvent extraction (sohxlet - ethanol and n-hexane) and ultrasonic-assisted extraction, evaluating the feasibility of the use of this raw material in biodiesel production. Hemp Seeds, are seeds from the Cannabis sativa plant, without the presence of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the hallucinogenic active principle of marijuana, with a high lipid content (between 25 and 40% of its weight dry), standing out as a potential source of triglycerides for the production of biofuel.
