Abstract

The aim of this study is a) to monitor the microbial load (CFU/mL) and the endotoxin levels (UE/mL) at the beginning, during the retreatment and before the root filling procedure in teeth with secondary endodontic infection performed in single and multiplevisitendodontic retreatment; b) to relate endotoxin levels (UE/mL) and microbial load(CFU/ mL) with the presence of clinical signs and symptoms and the initial volume of the periapical lesion (mm³) by cone-beam computerized tomography (CBCT) analysis; c) to compare the endodontic retreatment in single x multiple-visit as the presence of symptomatology after their conclusion. Regarding this, root canal content collections willbe performed: after the removal of root filling material (S1), after instrumentation withReciproc® system (S2) and after intracanal medication (MIC) (S3) for multiple-visit cases. The content of root canals will be analyzed by antimicrobial activity for microbiological culture (CFU/mL) and the endotoxin levels (EU/mL) by the Limulus Amebocyte Lysate(LAL) test. Also, the volume of the periapical bone destruction will be accessed throughCBCT using Nemotec® software. The data will be analyzed statistically.
