Abstract

Chronic systemic diseases may affect some functions of the immune system and are associated with defects in the tissue healing process and impairment of immune responses, as well as exerting a modifying potential on the oral cavity. Endodontic lesions are visualized radiographically as radiolucent areas and are the first sequelae related to the contamination of the root canal system. Endodontic treatment is indicated for the resolution of these lesions, but in order to observe the success we must follow the clinical and radiographic patient. Therefore, the objective of this study is to analyze radiographically and clinically the prevalence of apical periodontitis and endodontic treatment in patients with chronic systemic diseases. The research will select 100 patients over 18 years of age, 50 patients attended in the Extension Project "Periodontal Treatment of Patients with Chronic Systemic Diseases" and 50 healthy patients attended in the Discipline of Endodontics, both in the Faculty of Dentistry of Araçatuba - Unesp. Patients will be informed about the research and must sign a consent form. Radiographically, the panoramic and periapical digital radiographs of all patients will be analyzed. Each radiograph will be analyzed by two people calibrated. Clinically, diagnostic tests such as pulpal sensitivity, palpation and percussion tests will be performed to confirm the presence of apical periodontitis. Data will be tabulated and statistically analyzed to assess the difference between patients with systemic involvement and healthy.
