Abstract

In recent years, the number of large companies that have implemented Retirement Preparation Programs (PPAs) has increased, stemming from their perception of demographic changes and the need to intervene in the retirement processes of their employees. The objective of the research is to analyze the social conceptions of old age and aging that underlie the retirement preparation programs (PPA) of Brazilian private companies in the context of increasing population longevity. Thus, to achieve the proposed objective, a qualitative research, focused on analyzing, investigating and incorporating the meanings and interpretations attributed to the PPAs and the individuals involved, will be carried out. The method to be used is the case study, using secondary data about the managerial literature and reports published in the business media, and primary data, raised through semi-structured interviews with companies and consultancies that rely on PPAs. The data will be analyzed based on the technique of content analysis. The understanding of the meanings underlying these programs is relevant, since large companies are influential actors in constructing the senses about old age and aging, influencing the ways in which society in general understands the phenomenon. Programs such as these also influence the ways in which many people plan for retirement, deconstructing old-fashioned views about old age and rebuilding it as a new, more active phase. It seeks to understand, particularly, to the extent that retirement is understood in these materials as an opportunity to engage in new economic activities, such as entrepreneurial activity. (AU)
