Abstract

Having in mind the current and future continuous increase of the world urban population, it is indispensable that concepts like urban vitality and walkability gain more importance in the scientific research field of Architecture and Urban Planning as a meaningful way to subside urban designs, plans and politics. If "society" and "city" act like a symbiosis so that one gives strength to the other, it is necessary that they associate themselves in a more sustainable way in the development of a better and a more adequate urban life quality both for today and above all for tomorrow. Therefore, we assume that both urban vitality and walkability are parameters of evaluation of this urban life quality and they are in the relationship where (urban) space and (human) body materializes. It is for that reason that the study of Ergonomics becomes so necessary for this research, since it is the multidisciplinary science focused on the study and the understanding of how the human being relates to and in the physical environment. Over this way, this present research project has as the main object the potentialities of Ergonomics as a link between urban vitality and walkability. Therefore, the main objective of this research project is to create a systematization of the spatial qualities variables and their respect degree of spatial incidence based on the ergonomics linked between urban vitality and walkability. This systematization would help to consolidate a base of theoretical and practical exercise of qualitative evaluation of the effective use of the urban public spaces of the city of São Paulo by pedestrians. Therefore, given the emerging theme, it is expected to contribute scientifically to the research area and to be configured several systematized analytical studies to serve as a tool to subsidize project guidelines, urban planning and/or public policies.
