Abstract

Obesity is a multifactorial chronic disease, increasingly prevalent in the world population. The main aim of treatment is the change of life habits, such as a proper diet and the regular practice of physical exercises. However, the only thing that has not been sustained is long-term weight maintenance, and the presence of adaptive and compensatory processes such as elevated equilibrium metabolism is often observed. Therefore, the present study aims to evaluate weight loss, resting energy metabolism, as well as the oxidation of energetic substrates in women with grade I obesity, before and after dietary intervention, controlled under a hospitalization period. The maintenance of weight loss and energy metabolism will be monitored at the end of one month, three months and six months after treatment, by anthropometric measurements, body composition, and indirect calorimetry.
