Abstract

Currently there are many materials available for the study of sidewalks. However, none of them use an integrated analysis of the characteristics of a set of sidewalks. In this way, this aims to analyze not only individual sidewalks, but also to allow an integrated analysis of situations in which the pedestrian encounter in his/her way to reach public transportation. Thus, the main objective of this study is to propose a Global Indicator for a Sidewalks System (IGSC) for access to public transportation. The Global Indicator of the Sidewalk System, in turn, will be developed by the unification of indicators, through weighting and classification studies, based on the opinion of experts and users. The IGSC therefore includes a diagnosis of the quality of the sidewalk system that is offered to pedestrians and users of public transportation by bus. In this way, the IGSC can be a useful tool for public managers in making decisions about improving the integration between the sidewalk system and the public transport system by bus. As a specific objective is the definition of an analysis protocol whose goal is to be feasible to be use by the public authorities. A case study will also be carried out to exemplify the methodology developed.
