Abstract

Xanthomonas albilineans is the agent responsible for the leaf scald in sugarcane. This culture represents one of the relevant cultures of the Brazilian agribusiness for being an important worldwide commodity. Four field isolates were sequenced in a partnership established in 2015 between Dr. Silvana Creste (IAC) and Dr. Marie-Anne Van Sluys. Preliminary analysis of these bacterial isolates revealed the presence of genomic segments unique to each isolate, as well as highly conserved regions. Based on the collected data and bioinformatics analysis - genomic clustering, maximum entropy analysis, gene repertoire analyzes and others - we propose to carry out a comparative study among the different isolates. The proposed study aims to characterize and prospect sequences for further association studies between genotype and known phenotypes - variable disease severity levels within a range of symptoms. This research project is linked to the FAPESP thematic project "GEMAC - Genes genomes and transposable elements contribution to plant-microbe interaction: a sugarcane study case", process 2016/17545-8.
