Abstract

568/5000In order to reduce the risk of dental fluorosis in children, low F concentration associated with sodium trimetaphosphate (TMP) and alcohol sugars (xylitol and erythritol) was developed and showed a reduction of 90% in the caries lesion body when compared to a dentifrice 1100 ppm F. Even so, it is necessary to verify the capacity of this formulation against the erosive challenge, when the dissolution pH of the products deposited in the enamel by the fluoride dentifrices is exceeded. In view of this, the present in vitro study will evaluate the effect of low fluoride (200 ppm F) toothpaste associated with TMP (0.2%), 16% xylitol and 4% erythritol on initial enamel erosion. Bovine enamel blocks (n = 60) will be selected by initial surface hardness (SHi) and divided into 5 groups (n = 12/group): placebo (no fluoride, TMP, xylitol and erythritol); 16% xylitol + 4% erythritol; 200 ppm F + 0.2% TMP; 200 ppm F + 0.2% TMP + 16% xylitol + 4% erythritol; and 1100 ppm F. The enamel blocks will be immersed once in toothpastes (slurry) followed by 4 erosive challenges (citric acid, 0.75%, pH = 3.5, 1 minute, with stirring). Final surface hardness (SHf) will be performed after each challenge, to calculate the percentage of surface hardness change (%SHC). The toothpastes and the time of exposure to acid will be considered the variation factors and, as variable, the %SHC at each time. The data will be submitted to two-way analysis of variance of repeated measurements followed by the Student-Newman-Keuls test (p<0.05).
