Abstract

Objective: Analyze the relationship between body fat and arterial thickening among adolescents, as well as to identify the possible mediating role of physical activity and C-reactive protein in this process. Methods: Cross-sectional study, with data from the longitudinal study "Analysis of Behaviors of Children During Growth" (ABCD Growth Study) developed in the city of Presidente Prudente, SP. The sample will be composed of adolescents aged between 11 and 17 years, previously estimated sample size, dichotomized in sporting (adolescents involved in sports practices recruited from sports clubs and gymnasiums) and non-sports (school children who do not participate in organized sports). Adolescents will be included according to the following inclusion criteria: i) age between 11 and 17 years; (ii) does not have a metabolic and / or clinical disorder (previously diagnosed) that disrupts the practice of habitual physical activity; (iii) not make use of medicine that may interfere with blood pressure; iv) minimum involvement of 12 months in the sporting modality; v) the consent and consent signed by parents and volunteers, respectively; iv). non-sport group, in the last 12 months, not to be involved in sports activities. Study variables: Body fat will be estimated by bone densitometry. Carotid (CIMT) and femoral intima-media thickness (FIMT) arteries will be evaluated using an ultrasound device (Figlabs brand, model FP 102, Brazil). Physical activity will be estimated using an accelerometer (POLAR®, model V800 - Kempele, Finlândia), and C-reactive protein (CRP) will be dosed through a specific kit. Body weight and height will be measured in order to estimate the peak high velocity. Total cholesterol and fractions (HDL-c, LDL-c) and triglycerides will be measured in order to make up the dyslipidemia. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure will be measured by an automatic device. Numerical variables will be presented mean, standard deviation and confidence interval of 95%, Student's t-test for independent samples will be used in order to compare numerical variables according to sex and physical activity practice. Pearson's correlation will be used to verify the relationship between obesity and arterial thickening. Structural equation model will be used to evaluate the relationship between obesity and arterial thickness taking into account the mediating role of physical activity and C reactive protein, adjusted for sex, chronological age, blood pressure, biological maturation and dyslipidemia. All analyzes will be performed in the following software BioEstat (version 5.0) and Stata (version 15.0), statistical significance p <0.05. Expected Results: It is expected to identify whether obesity affects arterial thickening, as well as whether physical activity and inflammation may mediate this process. (AU)
