Use of geospatial technologies in the characterization and valorization of geosites: a study on the north coast of the state of São Paulo

Abstract

The southeastern coast of Brazil records in its geological features a complex evolutionary history related to the formation and rupture of Western Gondwana. The geosite '' Boudins of Camburizinho Islet ", located in São Sebastião-São Paulo, synthesizes through its structural and petrological records the collision processes that occurred during the evolution of the Central Ribeira Belt, in the Neoproterozoic, and the rifting extensional deformation processes during the Mesozoic. This project aims to demonstrate the geological characterization of the geosite and its relationship with the valorization of the geoheritage of the region. One of the main tools used in the characterization of the geosite are the geospatial technologies based on high resolution images of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), which are important techniques in the geological-structural characterization of outcrops and geological mapping in use combined with data from classic fieldwork. Geospatial products provide records of orthogonal and three-dimensional views, assisting in the description and understanding of their features. In addition, such records can also promote the safeguarding of geodiversity and serve as a basis for geoscientific outreach. This project works to promote the understanding and valorization of the geological heritage with the use of geospatial technologies.
