Abstract

The internalization of the prison units in small towns in the State of São Paulo, following the example set by Presidente Bernardes, have changed the routine of the populations of the inner cities both due to the movement of visitors of the penitentiaries and of the use of various services in the city by these same people. The arrival of visitors from different regions, with the intention of visiting the incarcerated loved one, tends to modify the local structures in several aspects. The hypothesis raised in the following research is the fact that visitors also use the services of tourism during such travels, which can be considered as a possible emerging demand of tourism, constituting a different public from the tourists who travel in search of leisure, being that the main motivation is the contact with the prisoner. Therefore, this study has the objective to understand which is the link that the study group has with the tourist activity, for this, it is sought under the aspect of tourism planning to identify the profile of the visitor; which tourism equipment and services are used during the visitation period, and data related to expenses incurred for these trips, these data provided the basis for an innovative term uniting this demand to tourism. The methodological procedures are based on bibliographical research, documentary and interviews with visitors and merchants in the city the questions will be based on IPTUR (2013), Dencker (1998) and the São Paulo Tourism Secretariat, which are adapted to the reality around the current research. By observing the first analysis, it will be possible to draw a discussion around this profile of visitors in relation to the tourism theme, and also to obtain a diagnosis of the socioeconomic impact that the city started to feel from the flow of visitors in the city. The initial results of this research can provide the municipal public power of cities that have prisons with new perspectives to planning actions that can positively reflect the social, spatial and or economic structures of these cities.
