Abstract

With this internship abroad we intend to open an additional perspective to our research enriching the following topics: 1. to add information about the relevance of Giovanni Battista Piranesi`s production during the 18th Century; 2. to verify the way that Piranesi`s works were revisited during the 20th Century contributing to the history of architecture`s debates; 3. the new approaches towards Piranesi`s works and its influence in the contemporary critical of architecture. In order to fulfil these objectives we will develop Bibliographical, Documental and Iconographic researches (which includes interviews and field visits), specially consulting the original copper matrices of Piranesi in the Istituto Centrale per la Grafica (Rome) and assessing a large number of titles disposed in Italian libraries according to the Catalogo del Servizio Bibliotecario Nazionale. Such material will allow reflections that will be applied to complement the general aim of our Post-Doctoral research which is: to study in depth the way that Piranesi used the ancient roman`s ruins as instruments for the construction of his architectural reflection, considering one of his masterpieces - Parere sull'architettura (1765) - in order to contribute in the Brazilian Academic field with a more detailed analysis about this influent architect. This internship abroad was o predicted in the Research Project in Brazil, process 2018/04931-2.
