Abstract

The objective of this project is to understand how the epistemological assumptions of the French Geography of the first decades of 20th century are articulated, through the physical-natural themes, to the academic debate of Brazilian Geography and the production of meanings of scholarly knowledge for Geography in the Era Vargas (1930-1945). To this end, it is assumed that the physical-natural themes constitute, historically, a typology of school contents present in the disputes for the meanings of scholarly knowledge in Geography throughout the 20th century. Methodologically, this project is constructed by the acquisition and analysis of French academic and didactic works, taking as analytical reference the assumptions of the epistemological matrix developed by Silva and Gamboa (2014), to then, to verify what the possible relations between French works (academics and didactics) and the production of didactic works of Modern School Geography in Brazil. In this way, it will be possible to recognize, in the end, how the physical-natural themes are taken as constituent elements of the political production of meanings for the scholarly geographic knowledge, territory and nationality in France and Brazil between 1900 and 1945, considering the discursive surfaces present in the texts and images of the analysed materials.
