Abstract

The designers of the internet built it as a topological based static infrastructure to connect people and devices. However, the adoption of wireless technologies enabling the mobility of the connected nodes originated a dynamic topology transformation in the network. This mobility allied to the expansion of the usage of global navigation satellite systems (e.g., GPS, Galileo) gave evidence to location based service provision. These services have wide adoption among end users of mobile devices when performing daily activities, such as, ordering a taxi, buying food or even dating. Still, no advantage of the locality of these services is used by the network, instead this locality is emulated over the topological structure. Our aim in this project is to add location aware capabilities to the network in order to use them to improve the quality of services to end users. We aim to propose different techniques to deal with the locality in service accessing and deployment, while also tackling the mobility of users while consuming them. We will compose these techniques to build a platform for provision of location-based services aimed to end users. In this platform, deployment and routing of services will be held differently of current Internet, making use of recently proposed paradigms for the future internet, as Software Defined Networking, FOG Computing and Named Data Networking.
