Abstract

Dating sediments from Paranaguá Barrier has correlation with the knowledge of the relative sea level in the past, which was one the important cause of the formation of the state of Paranaguá costal plane. This is, of course, of great interest to Quaternary geologists. The Paranaguá Barrier extend for almost 25 km from the coast. The first 7 or 8 km is of Holocene origin, the remaining part are Pleistocenic. Dating sediments collected from a point about 10 km from the coast has been done, (not complete yet) in the past two years. It is a work that repairer long time. This work will be completed dating sediments from km-15 and km-20. Dating sediments from point at about 25 km from the coast will be the main interest in the present project.
