Abstract

Short implants and cemented prosthesis fixation systems were an alternative to rehabilitate atrophic maxillary patients. These kind of fixation comes up with a viable method of rehabilitation. However, there is no conscience about the use of this kind of rehabilitation regarding biomechanical properties and its capacity of prosthesis support. The aim of this study was to evaluate the distribution of stresses quantitatively, by means of the extensometric (AE) analysis, of an alternative protocol to the bone grafting procedure for the implant - supported rehabilitation of the atrophic maxilla: (1)conventional implant (3,75x11.5mm) associated to a short implant (5x7mm) and (2) different prosthesis fixation system: screwed (P) and cemented (C) From a prototype of the edentulous maxilla with atrophy in the posterior region, made by means of a 3D digital model, the specimens were divided into 04 groups of 05 specimens for EA. Twenty models were made of polyurethane (F160). Morse taper implants were used and screwed and cemented multiple (14-16) attached implanted fixed implants were used. The groups were divided, according to the proposed rehabilitation protocol in IsIsP - two S - standard implants (3.75x11.5mm), one of which is installed in the region of the first premolar (14) and another in the region of the first molar (16) and screwed prosthesis; IsIsC - two S - standard implants (3.75x11.5mm), one of which is installed in the region of the first premolar (14) and another in the region of the first molar (16) and cemented prosthesis; IsIcP - an S-standard implant (3.75x11.5mm) in the region of the first premolar (14) and a short implant (C) (5x7mm) in the region of the first molar (16) and screwed prosthesis and IsIcC - an implant S - standard (3.75x11.5mm) in the region of the first premolar (14) and a short implant (C) (5x7mm) in the region of the first molar (16) and cemented prosthesis. For AE, the model/implant/prosthesis assembly was positioned in a circular polariscopic associated to a universal test machine (EMIC), with axial force of 100N being applied, 02 extensometers were positioned in the mesial and distal of each implant and 01 in the apical region. The electrical signals were picked up by a data acquisition device (ADS2002). Quantitative data were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey test (P <0.005).
