Abstract

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotubes are increasingly gaining the attention of researchers because of their high surface area and excellent physicochemical properties. They are materials suitable for various applications in the field of materials development, such as the manufacture of catalytic devices, hydrogen sensors, batteries, supercapacitors, solar cells, biomaterials and polymer nanocomposites. In this way, through the functionalization process, it is possible to contribute to the improvement of the performance of this material, in addition to giving it better physicochemical properties. This work aims at the functionalization of titanium dioxide nanotubes using 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane as functionalizing agent, for later application of the material in polymeric nanocomposites. It is important to clarify that the project aims only to study the functionalization of NT/TiO2 with MPS. The preparation of nanocomposites, as well as their characterization, will be carried out by the student in another project later. The nanotubes will be characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy, infrared absorption spectroscopy (FT-IR), photoelectron spectroscopy X-ray excited (XPS), zeta potential and dispersion assays.
