Abstract

The comprehension of human development as a result of the interaction between individual and environment makes it necessary to investigate the adaptive behavior (AB) exhibited in different physical and sociocultural circumstances, once this may contribute to greater autonomy and active participation of people in society. However, despite the significance of the AB in the growing up process, there is still a scarcity of research that investigates what is expected when working with adolescents in typical development and which variables affect their development, consideration the different scenarios which adolescents and families are included. Thus, the AB of adolescents from different social classes in typical development is intended to be analyzed, in order to investigate whether the socioeconomic status and gender are influential variables in the acquisition of these skills. For this purpose, thereabout 120 legal guardians of Elementary and Middle School students from public and private schools will respond to the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scale (VABS) and a socioeconomic data questionnaire. From the data obtained, inferential statistical tests will be carried out to compare the results in terms of adaptive behaviors manifested in both groups, taking the socioeconomic status and gender as independent variables into consideration. Based on the literature, it is expected to find differences according to the socioeconomic status of participants, whereas the behavior of the individual occurs in the relationship with the surrounding environment and the required skills in different sociocultural contexts are distinct.
