Abstract

The understanding of the physiological dynamics ruling energy metabolism has long been a target of intense scientific interest. Although it is recognized that several components influence and participate in its regulation, dietary profile is a main element that deeply affects the whole system. More recently, research interests have been focused on the involvement of bone tissue in this metabolic context, given its singular role as an endocrine organ. Previous studies have shown the relationship between caloric restriction and loss of bone mass; however, there are few consistent reports in the literature on the skeletal effects of increased protein content in a hypocaloric diet. The literature shows contradictory data on the impact of protein ingestion on bone health, existing either positive or negative findings, particularly on bone mass. development and maintenance Therefore, the present work intends to carry out a quantitative analysis of the impact of the hyperproteic diet on the body composition of rats submitted to caloric restriction. For this purpose, the animals will be assessed by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) as well as by determinations of bone remodeling markers and urinary calcium and assessment of acid base status.
