Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Long periods in sedentary behaviors promote a deteriorationof vascular function, which is associated with the occurrence of noncommunicable diseases. In this context, the execution of breaks in this behavioris reccomended, performed through short duration and intensity walks. Studieshave shown benefits of the isometric training in vascular function, which coulddiminish the sedentary behavior time consequences. OBJECTIVE: To analyzethe acute effects of sedentary behavior breaks using the knee extension isometricexercise in the cardiovascular health indicators of healthy adults exposed toprolonged sitting time. METHODS: It is a randomized crossover trial, on whichthe target population will consist of healthy subjects above 18 years old of bothgenders. The participants will perform, in a randomized order, three experimentalsessions (control, break with knee extension isometric exercise and standardbreak). All sessions will have in common a 3 hour sendentary behavior period. However, in the standard break session the participants will perform walkingbreaks every 30 min, in the isometric session they will perform 4 bouts ofisometric exercise and in the control session will remain seated without breaks. Before and after this period the vascular function, blood pressure and cardiacautonomic modulation will be evaluated.
