Abstract

Introduction: Pain is linked to physical, cognitive, and psychological and behavioral impairments that compromise quality of life, having a higher prevalence, severity and duration in elderly women. Studies have shown protective effect of testosterone in reducing pain, however this relationship is not sufficiently clarified. Objective: To analyze the relationship between testosterone and pain in Brazilian and Spanish elderly women. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional and quantitative research that will be performed with 100 Brazilian women aged between 60 and 80 years residing in a region of high social vulnerability, and data from elderly women being collected in Spain by the Laboratory of Cognitive and Affective Psychology Neuroscience Clinic of the University Institute of Research in Health Sciences of the University of the Balearic Islands. The data will be organized in a single bank, and analyzed in the program Statistical Package for Social Sciences, version 21.0; and will include measures of central tendency and variability, and normality test (kolmogorov-smirnov). The correlation and comparison tests between the groups will be chosen using a parametric result. Significant values of p d 0.05 will be considered for all tests. (AU)
