Influence of argon plasm in the osseointegration and biomechanic of titanium implants

Abstract

New Treatments for titanium surface (Ti) have been developed in order to help the long-term implantation success, as well as positively influence the osseointegration process. Thus, the objective in this research will be to compare the osteogenesis, in vivo of pure Grade 5 Ti implants submitted or not to the treatment with argon plasma, through histological and histomorphometric analysis, and torque test. Fourteen rats Will be used in this study to receive an implant in the right tibia and the other on the left: a) control Group (CG): Ti implant; b) Experimental Group (EG): It implant treated with argon plasma. After 21 days of surgery, the animals will be randomly selected, and euthanized. BothTibias of 07 rats will be subjected to histological analysis to evaluate bone tissue in the bone-implant and histomorphometric interface to quantify the neoformed bone in this interface. The Tibias of the other 07 animals will be subjected to the reverse torque test to measure the fixation strength of the implants to the bone tissue. The data will be statistically analyzed using the GraphPadPrism software (GraphPad, San Diego, CA) initially by means of the normality test aiming the application of the appropriate statistical test. The level of significance adopted will be the conventional value of 5%.
