Abstract

The food-water-energy nexus is a recent proposal in the field of sustainability. This approach emphasizes the chains of interdependence and contingencies against a still hegemonic logic of planning and closed actions in sectors. The search for understanding the ways in which the food-water-energy nexus is apprehended by young Brazilians is the objective of a thematic project under the coordination of the proponent of this Scientific Initiation. The data collection was carried out in 39 cities of the Metropolitan Region of the Paraíba Valley and North Coast by means of a survey with a sample of more than 3700 respondents. As a result of the thematic project, which will be concluded in April 2019 and using the data already collected, the present proposal for a JI has the general objective of contributing to the analysis, through a quantitative approach, of the understandings, experiences and participation of young people in the food-water-energy nexus. More specifically, it proposes to identify significant differences according to different geographic and socioeconomic classifications. This knowledge is considered important because it makes it possible to guide public policies, especially those related to Education for Sustainability. When integrated into the qualitative approach - for which another CI grant is being requested - the identification of the particularities related to various taxonomies of cities, subregions and localities is expected.
