Abstract

Make-up is increasingly a sought-after item, often used to enhance facial attractiveness and to accentuate features that represent femininity. With this in mind, this research proposes to continue a series of studies on the social and personal influences of make-up, investigating the neurophysiological correlates and foundations involved in the perception of facial attractiveness, make-up, emotional valence and ethnicity. Methods will be used to measure implicit responses, such as the approach-avoidance task, facial electromyography (EMG) and electroencephalography (EEG). In the study will be used images of female faces with different levels of make-up (without, light and heavy), emotional expressions (neutral, positive and negative) and ethnicities (Asian, Caucasian and African descent), taken from the image bank.
