Abstract

With advances in technology, new mechanisms have emerged to ensure accessibility for people suffering from amputations. In this context, prostheses emerge as a mechanism to improve life quality and present an opportunity to partially maintain mobility and execution of daily tasks. However, the resources used in these prostheses, such as electronics and complex mechanisms, make the easy access to them unfeasible to wide range of disabled people. Therefore, it is necessary to invest in studies that can provide a new mechanism, that not only allows the movement of the device, but also uses more accessible components. Thus, the present project is a biomimetic application of the morphology and kinematics of a human hand in the computational modeling of a pneumatic prosthesis - based on soft robotics and 3D printing, as well as the development of motion simulations, in order to develop a 3D printable prosthesis. In addition, we aim to develop a low cost prosthesis model able to emulate fine movements of the human hand in different environments and situations, providing comfort, accessibility, adaptability and conformability through the use of simpler and most functional systems.
