Abstract

Fingerprints are the most common biological traces found in crime scenes, however, in most cases they are not intact for identify the criminal by dactyloscopy. In this way, an analysis of DNA profiles has been increasingly used from the biological material recovered in these fingerprints. Fingerprint deposition in general may occur by primary or secondary transfer and many factors, such as environmental conditions, substrate types and individual characteristics of the depositors, may affect the success of obtaining these genetic profiles. In Brazil, many types of crimes are committed daily, among them, cold weapon crimes, vehicle thefts and virtual crimes are the most recurrent. In cases of cold weapons, DNA profiles resulting from knife handles are not satisfactory yet, while in the vehicle thefts and virtual crimes this field still seems to be unexplored, evidencing the demand for research in this area. Thus, the aim of this study is to analyze and improve the feasibility of obtaining DNA profiles in different materials of knife handles, knobs and steering wheels of cars, and in computer keyboards, through direct and secondary simulated transfer, considering the variables that may interfere in this process, with the purpose of assist the work of the technical-scientific police in the identification of criminals.
