Abstract

This project aims to understand the panorama of digital media accessibility in Australia to compare with the Brazilian setting, directing especially on web journalism. The emergence of a society organized through digital networks creates the need to analyze which factors can exclude citizens from social participation, provided by the internet. To accomplish the project's objective, the researcher will conduct bibliographic research in articles and books of Australian authors and documentary research in the country's legislation and other legal documents to obtain a complete picture of Australia media accessibility. Further, the researcher will periodically meet with his adviser, Katie Ellis, to dialogue about the bibliography and to direct the project. After the Australian panorama analysis, the researcher will conduct a comparison with the Brazilian accessibility scenery, which has been analyzed by the associated research with this project, entitled 'Accessibility and Citizenship: the relations between travel web journalism and the visually impaired people' funding by the São Paulo Research Foundation. The study intends to create a greater theoretical and interpretative baggage for the researcher and the related project. Also, it wants to contribute to a more accurate interpretation of the media exclusion process, which crosses borders, as a worldwide trend. (AU)
