Abstract

Complex systems resilience became an extremely important subject lately, and it is already applied on different knowledge fields. In this project, it is intended to apply those concepts in the electric power systems, using complex networks, along with graph theory, to represent an electrical grid, and to analyses its resilience when failure is detected. Those failures can change in number and type (nodes, edges or both simultaneously). Two typologies will be used for the creation of graphs: small-world and scale-free networks. Besides that, as a simulation particularity, graphs elements (both nodes and edges) will have their own parameters (e.g., characteristic impedance or maximum capacity). Finally, a reconfiguration algorithm will be implemented, so that the system can recover (totally or partially), after failure. Between different optimization methods, Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS) will be used, as a way to find the best solution (considering projects limitations). The algorithm will take graphs parameters, as well as the system topology, into consideration when trying to find the best solution, in each case.
