Abstract

This research project focuses on the possible artistic dialogues between Brazil and France regarding the selection of visual models that guided the brushes of Brazilians when creating the images related to the power of the First Republic. It seeks to understand, therefore, how artists have absorbed (re) meant and updated such models, whether for the painting of history, in relation to the scenes of the Proclamation of the Republic; the portraits of Presidents, military and civilians; or allegorical, regarding the subject of Freedom, Justice and the Republic itself, according to the local demands.
